It is all hardwood...other than Hedge Apple, I don't think there's much else that will last as long! Easily 10 yrs or more! Up here, we may get 20 years out of it!![]()

How long does a oak or hickory tree 4-8 inches in diameter at the but end that's the length of a boat last before it completely rots out?

Agreed, at least 15 for both in moderately fertile water. In semi infertile water like in a fresh dug gravel pit perhaps 25...
I know some stakebeds of Hardwood boards drove in that were put in in the 1990's are still solid. but they remain sunmerged. There are stumps submerged since 1942 that are still solid. The totally submerged wood lasts but exposed to air it quickly rots.
Correct. Do keep in mind that using larger limbs requires significantly more weight to properly pin it to the bottom...

Again, correct. Am thinking more of windward shores; better safe than sorry...prefer it stays where want it to, so I personally tend to overweight it as insurance...
