Thread: Mess in my boat......

As I was leaving the house yesterday afternoon, I noticed a white milky stain under the drain in my boat, with a steady drip of something that smelled like gas/turpentine/solvent falling onto my carport. I immediately freaked out. Oh lord, I thought, A dang leak in my fuel tank! I pulled the cover off the boat, opened the back hatch and was dismayed to see an inch of oily liquid in the mechanical compartment. I stuck a finger in it, and brought it to my nose. I was a bit relieved that it did not smell or feel like gas, but now I was concerned with what it could possibly be. After searching through multiple compartments, I found a Mega size can of WD4D under my emergency transfer pump. It had a whole the size of a pencil lead in the side of the can, and a steady stream of WD4D was squirting into the underside of my boat, running to the back compartment, and dripping onto the driveway.

My question is... How am I going to clean this mess up? Will WD4D dissolve the blown foam insulation under my floors? How flammable are the fumes form this stuff?

BTW... If you leave a can of WD4D in the boat over several years, it can apparently rust through and rupture, filling you boat with this vile liquid....and yes, this may be a further complication from leaving the plug in the boat this summer and letting 6 inches of water sit in the boat for two weeks in July..... (I had to replace all of the electronic components in the mechanical compartment, and I thought that I had finally dealt with the consequences of my summer brain fart!

I would think dish detergent and copious amounts of water would cut it.
