I have not had problems with the Galaxy Black. The Harbor Freight Black after cutting with a lot of Clear is ok but was dull flat black until mixed in Galaxy and clear. . I also quit using Janns White and like the Harbor Freight white cut with Clear and mixed in Pearl White. Mixing the HB with Protec has really stretched the 2 oz Protecs a LONG way.

Drips in the past were too much initial heat prior to dipping. I now use a heat gun and will pass the dipped head back over the heat gun with the head of the jig pointed upward to help any excess paint to run toward the hook point. This will not work with heavy glitter paints like Ruby Slipper or Sapphire. U do not want excessive heat directly on the glitter. It will darken the paint. I will heat the heads a 2 or 3 count longer before dipping heavy glitter paints.

X2 on the Protec Black and Janns White powder. Mixing clear in with the black fixed that, but Janns White powder SUCKS!!! I've gone to ProTec white pearl and it's a much better color and works great. Columbia coatings has a Pearl Sparkle and a Pearlized White that look really good but have to wait on cash.

A lot of my PP is Protec except for a group buy from Rosies a couple of weeks ago. Question. I want to mix a black with white to get kind of a dove grey head. Do I mix white into the black or the other way around or does it matter? Looking for a soft shell crawfish color.

Either way but watch your ration of each color. In a dove color you'll probably be using more white - start out at a 1-1 ratio of each color. I personally like metal measuring spoons for doing this and after the 1-1 use 1/8 teaspoon add ins till you get your color and make sure to write down everything you did so if you ever run out you can mix up more.

Soft shell color could be hard cause depending on where you are or time of season it could be different.

I ended up with a marbled/granite look when I made my gray. The black showed up as tiny specks you can hardly see till up close. The overall was a gray that I like and like the unique marbled/granite look too. Catches fish so I am happy. Fatman is spot on as always. WRITE IT DOWN!!! I have made some nice mixes that I forgot to write down and have been kicking myself trying to get it exactly the same since.

Heat control. Since I switched to a convection oven I hardly ever get nipple heads. Still want some of those upright holders from csi though....
