    Default Burlington sewage

Burlington has furtilized Jordan lake with 3.5 million gallons of sewage. If the Shad live thru the cold winter, they should really thrive.

I was pleased to see yesterday that there are tons of baitfish still alive in Jordan. Yes, there are several hundred thousand gulls eating lots of bait, but our fishfinder was solid with baitfish in the channels. I didn't see any shad floating up to the top, so with warmer weather coming, hopefully they will have survived this winter.

It looks like the Stinking Creek part of Jordan may live up to it's name with this spill. Burlington just spent millions to upgrade it's water treatment plant, but something must have happened with this bitter cold.

They had a pipe break. Had to bypass it with a pump before they could fix it. They reported yesterday that they were able to recover most of the solids and semi-solids; it was mostly liquids that continued down river. According to the report, some 800 million gallons moving down the Haw daily to mix with 3.8 million gallons so effect may be light. Pittsboro water treatment folks hadn't detected any change in the water they were pulling from the river...
