Shoes came off at the end of school and didn't go back on till Sept. We didn't have curb on the street around home so when we went to my Grandmother's house I'd alway stub at least one big toe per trip, what bloody sore mess. Jump out of bed in the morning throw on some shorts and off we went, fish in hunting making forts having dirt clod fights. Seldom bored cuz if you were Mom would find something you didn't want to do to keep you busy........Ah the good old days. I'm getting close to the Golden years and so far they aren't too Golden if you know what I mean. Getting old ain't for sissies

    Ronnie,
Thanks for correcting my spelling on the title. By the time I noticed it, I could not edit it. Guess people clicked on it to see what a "dat" was.
Everyone found it curious that I always wore shoes, even though I grew up in the country. We had chickens in the yard and one barefoot misstep and I was done with the barefoot scene. Yuck, all twixt my toes, euuuuhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!
Here is another quote worth rememerbing:

Honey, lemme tell you somethin’,” the elderly lady instructed. “If a man’s a man, and he’s worth having, he’s gonna chase somethin’. It might be whiskey; it might be gamblin’; it might be women; it might be money; it might be huntin’ and fishin’. But he is going to chase somethin’! Just be glad your man likes to hunt and fish, ‘cause then you know where he is and what he’s doin’!” Robert Hitt Neill, Going Home, 1987.

Is Nebraska considered country? I grew up there hunting pheasant and quail with German short hairs. You get 20 miles past Lincoln and it becomes the Great American Desert.
