Had one do the EXACT same thing...believe it or not... It was the battery. Had a cell loose inside it is what I was told. Put a new one in it and everything went back to normal.

Not an 08, but my 03's dash gauges have been off for a while and the radio was the 1st to go. Ended up just pulling the fuse for the radio. Speedometer, oil pressure, tachometer, work when they want to. Fuel, voltage, temperature have not been affected. Ran the codes down, but found nothing. Was told by GM tech that it was a normal wire harness in dash that needs replaced which was a "known" problem. Been doing it for years, but not affected starting or running. Just not spent the $$ yet to replace the harness. Check the oil regularly and GPS speed helps keep me from getting a ticket. Will try cleaning the harness connection at the fuse box mentioned above to see how that works for me.

2001 GMC I tear into the steering wheel to get to the horn points. Sand them down for 1 blow when it goes through inspection. It won't blow the second time.
Radio will not stay on selected stations, it's off most of the time.
Get a quality auto parts store to check battery. I was in the parts business for 30 years and a battery will lose connection on the plate when you hit a bump it makes the connection
