That crappie flu bug is very contagious
Good luck and good fishing
I remember growing up all I ever wanted was to catch a bass. That was the fish to catch. That same desire extended into adulthood until one day a new next door neighbor and I went fishing together. He indicated he wanted to stop by the bait shop. Not really knowing what he had in mind we did and he came out with a coca-cola, a pack of nabs, and a tube of crickets. Once we got on the water he baited up and within 30 seconds he was reeling in a fish. I told him that was a nice fish but it was not a bass. He said, "I'm not fishing for bass, I'm crappie fishing." Well, I had never really paid much attention to them but within a minute or two he had another one! He asked me if I had ever eaten one and I told him no. He said "well, that is going to change, they are going to be your supper tonight."
After he caught a mess of crappie and I a few bass we headed home for our fish fry. We cleaned them and fried them up while our wives prepared the side dishes to accompany our fair. Well, all I can say is they were MUCH better eating than the bass ever were! The next time we went out I took a pole exclusively for crappie (and a tube of "roaches" as he liked to call them). It was one of the most enjoyable times fishing I ever remember. From then on....I was a self proclaimed "crappie man" ! Catching a bass was a bonus but now I was after the slabs! Jim and I spent many years together fishing for crappies. It has been a while now since his passing but I still don't catch a crappie without thinking of him and wondering how awful it would have been to have gone through life and not have experienced this gem of a fish.
