Default Going to crescent lake on feb 8th

I am going to crescent lake on feb 8th and if anyone want to help me out with a few spots to try that would be awesome! i am new to the Florida area. I am used to fishing a Sardis lake used to catch 2.5 lbs plus crappie all day. I only have a jon boat with a 6hp so the farthest i can go is 45 min away from boat ramp. 8 mph sucks! any help would be greatly appreciated!

You shouldn't have to travel far in your jon boat to find fish at Crescent. 2 weeks ago I knew where there were some fish but I saw a report yesterday saying that the big females are starting to move to shallower water. If I hear of anything, I'll PM you whatever info I can share. Other than that, just look for the boats. That will tell you where the fish are...Good Luck!!

I was there Sat. and Sun. caught some good fish but nothing like earlier in the month. I think the big femails have moved in closer to their spooning areas. If you like to fish in close I think you can do well with or without minnows. Good luck and let us know how you did.

I will be down there on Feb 9th. Where are you lodging and how long will you be down? If the 10 day forecast holds, I will bring a 14' Jon with a 9.9 so I can get in there wid dem.

If your going to use minnows, buy them before you go and take them with you. There is no easy place to buy them in crescent city.

I will say this about Crescent. It is a typical shallow water lake that Florida is known for and it can get mean and nasty if the wind comes up. I was there 2 weeks ago and it was windy most of the time. If I had not have been in a bigger boat, I would have lost alot of fishing time. I saw a bass style boat at the CrappieUSA tournament that had 3 waves, or rollers, come over the back of his boat and he had a heckuva time trying to get back to a dock to bilge the water out. Both guys in the boat were sitting on the front of the boat to off set the weight of the water in the boat. That could have gotten real ugly, real quick!! Luckily, they made it back to a dock on shore, out of the waves, and were able to bilge the water out and only lost some fishing time during the tournament. I had some rollers that came over the back of my 19 ft Searay that same day. There is no way I could have stayed in the wind all day in a smaller boat..Just be careful if you are going out in a jon boat and stay close to shore if you think there may be some wind moving in.

Tim, I better take the War Eagle as it has an HD auto bilge. ...but if it is windy we are going to dead lake or the River at Astor.

what is a good alternative lake if it is windy? I am not lodging I live an hour and 15 min away. what is the closest bait shop to the lake. Anyone have a good deal on a 1987+ 9.9 or 15 hp short shaft outboard?

If Crescent is rough, I usually scoot over to Dead Lake but with a small boat you might be better to launch at Dead Lake.

Leonard's Landing has a small bait shop, call ahead to see if they got minners.
The finest gift you can give to any fisherman is to put a good fish back, and who knows if the fish that you caught isn't someone else's gift to you?"
