Lake Walk-in-Water Tomorrow (1/22/14)?
Hello - long time lurker, first time poster!
Planning to hit Lake Walk-in-Water near Lake Wales tomorrow and could really use some tips. Never fished this lake before and fairly new to crappie fishing!
-
here is CRAPPIEGIRLS advice. The coldest night of the year is tonight say channel 6 Orlando.Tomorrow is gonna be cold cold and windy--STAY IN BED.

CG1 "Dances with fish"
-
Cold with some wind….
I'd definitely stay in the cover… If I had to go tomorrow and you wanted to fish that area. I'd head to Lake Kissimmee and dip minnows on the far north edge tight to cover and stay in the air boat trails.
With the wind coming from the north, it might not effect you as much..
I wouldn't be fishing open water.., and I might hit it late, around 9 - 10 once it warms up a little...
But that's because I don't like either cold or wind, and especially cold wind.
-
Enjoy the Florida area for scenery not fishing. Most all lakes will be rough with
cold wind commin in. Walk-in-Water is not for the faint of heart, that one can get
rough, as well as Kissimmee. Enjoy the day and restring you lines or go to the
"Candystore" browse up/down tackle isles at Lake Wales.

Well, all you naysayers were not quite correct - it was a beautiful day on the lake with very little wind! I got there around noon (after browsing the Candy Store) and the breeze was less than 10 mph, and fell throughout the afternoon - flat calm after 3:00pm. Water temps started at just under 59 and warmed to a tad over 60.
Having said that, I didn't get a single nibble. I fished all the FWC brush piles, some weedlines along the northwest corner of the lake and idled across mid-lake fishing anything that looked like a school. My fishing partner, a 16-week old Golden Retriever puppy, is convinced I can't catch a fish! She may be right, but it was still a better day than restringing rods, sleeping late or working!
Next trip will probably be Kissimmee - any advice on that one?
-
Main thing, you got out on the water, was to look it over and move on it.
Locating fish at Walk-in-Water can sometimes prove to be a headache.
PM next time you elec to go maybe can help you out.
Kissimmee at times is rough lake to deal with.....34,000 acres can really become nasty
depending on size of boat.
Get a map of Lake... presently will find Mr. Spec on grass line on either side of
outflow of River into Lake. (right side follow outside grass line about 1/2 - 3/4 mi
watch for white stakes in grass - second stake start jigging grass line
Turn left out of River - run along for about 3/4 mi and move into left towards make
and work various grass lines beside various pig trails. Do not try and fish the main
pig trail from Kissimmee north to North Cove (that is sucidal) boats come through
there "on plane" wide open from 30 mph to 85 & 90 mph.
Also can go down by State Park canal entrance and turn left up into Tiger Creek
but again be careful (do not do this on weeks ends) it is very twisting, lots of good
fishing, but boats come through also extremely fast and cannot see you because of
number of twists in creek. (If in there keep eyes & ears on alert)
West side Bahama island grass line next to pads or slightly into pads is good for
jigging this time of year. 4-7 ft water along grass.
Fish being takin the hour-glass on drift at Hatchinaw also on drift in Cypress up next
to hydrillia.
