    Default Sardis River Fishing

Anybody try to walk the banks of the river and catch fish this time of year? My dad always used to tell me they stayed in the river year round. ???

At Sardis lower lake boat ramp we would fish the river before the weir was built down to Belmont rd. My dad and I would launch the boat with a 2 1/2 hp Sears/ Elgin outboard. The small engine didn't have enough powder to get us up stream. Mom would drive the car and trailer to the Belmont ramp area. My sister would drive her back to camp. We could have a 6 to 8 hour trip depending on the catch.
There is a ramp below the weir now, but the Belmont ramp was removed.

I'm probably going to give it a shot one day soon. I think fish stay in the river all year long. I know close to spawning I catch the stew out of em walking banks of creeks and don't have to worry about the wind! Amazing how shallow they get I clear water in creeks and you can't see em swimming around. find a little cut in the bank with some roots or something down there and game on.

Yeah last year was my first year of wading. I am hooked. It's amazing how close you catch them in creeks your standing in. It's better than any type of crappie fishing in my book. You can also really learn the lay of the land and the creeks and what's in them. I can't wait. What's really nice also is no boat control just the rod is all you have to control. You can fill a stringer fast.

Ive found the key to the river on sardis is the current. If you have alot of current ive seen them stack up in the log jams or the eddies. Never caught many without much current. JMO!

Went by Wyatt's Sunday afternoon. River bank looks good to walk and jig. With no rain in sight the banks should stay dry for awhile.

Thanks. I'll keep you updated if I get a chance to give it a try. Nothing else, it does give a chance to check out the terrain.

Jigged tallahatchie for 2 hours this afternoon. Large mouth and bream. About 5 hits from something. Thump felt good. Bites were coming good right at dark.
