Minimum 10-inch size limit for black crappie in effect for Lake Griffin
With crappie season in full swing, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) wants to remind anglers about the 10-inch minimum size limit for taking black crappie in Lake Griffin Fish Management Area in Lake County. The daily bag limit is 25.
“The Lake Griffin black crappie population has the potential to support a greater harvest of the larger black crappie,” said Dennis Renfro, Fisheries Resource Coordinator for the FWC. “The 10-inch minimum size combined with a 25-fish daily bag limit should allow anglers to take more large fish without harming the abundance or size/age structure in the lake.”
During the black crappie season (November-April), FWC creel clerks will be on Lake Griffin surveying anglers. FWC staff will be evaluating the effects of this rule, which, based on models, could provide increased total numbers and average sizes of harvested crappie and reduce overfishing of the younger fish populations.

Yeah, and I found that "one fish" on Christmas day Billbob. I don't think it went 8 inches. At the rate I've been catching them, might be a couple years before I start seeing ten inchers! At least I got something to look forward to.

The problem with the FWC is exactly what you said and everybody else seems to think. CRAPPIE SEASON!!! There is no such thing. Crappie bite year round and are actually easier to catch all summer. You don't have all these cold fronts coming through messing everything up. If the FWC is going to make this rule they should have people out there enforcing it. I wish they would make a statewide 10in. or 12in. size limit/ It is kind of dumb to just do it on 3 lakes in Florida that I know of.![]()
