    The best thing is to not tie with that type of jig head. Save them for plastic tails and grubs.
    But if you have a lot of them and must tie with them, the absolute best way to remove the barb is with
    a Dremel motorized tool, with a small stone grinding attachment. It will get rid of that barb in about 2 seconds!
    Smoothly and cleanly.... forget side-cutters or pliers.
    What? Doesn't everyone own a Dremel?
    I've had one for about 20 years - - comes in handy for lots of things.

    I have tried tying on this type of collared jig head and it is a pain in the butt!
    Thread slips out of place, chenille will not wrap properly . . . jeez!

    Small side cutters bro. Takes 5 seconds. Three cuts at most. First around head base to seperate. Second cut parallel to hook shank from bottom. If other side doesn't just fall off, give it a tug or cut it.

    The easiest way I've found is with fingernail clippers, too easy and quick...
