The Elite 5 DSI is a perfect size for me. I've seen folks riding around with what looks like flat screen TV's. Some are downright obnoxious. I, for one, don't think it's necessary. Then again, to each his own. Guys, I think the unit is a good buy.

If I had money to blow or fished for a living I think I would invest in a bigger model but its just not worth it to me right now. I catch all the fish I can eat and then some I just really want to key in on bigger fish and maybe have a little help on those slow days, plus I am planning on putting out some brush piles and I want the GPS to mark and find them. I sure appreciate all the help and opinions it makes the purchase a little easier.

The larger screen is not worth much in 2d sonar...the difference is noticed in down imaging and/or split screen modes. If you are looking for better fish then you are looking for better detail of the bottom/structure and cover which the 7 provides.

Check out the member sponsors. I just ordered mine from one on site that matched or beat every price I have found on-line or anywhere else. I haven't recieved it yet I just ordered it on Fri. Have them give you a quote.

Drop a jig or weight below the transducer. Adjust the surface clarity, contrast, and color pallets (blue works best for me) until you can see the jig/weight. As the screen scrolls you will see a line. When you move your jig/weight, the scrolling line will adjust to that depth as well. That's what I did, and have very good clarity of tree branches, etc. now.
