Default Back to the basics: Need a little help.

Got my plastic and colorants in yesterday. It will still be a while before I shoot any because I have to order some stabilizer. I am not going to ruin any colors once I get started so I will wait.

Just need a refresher on heating the plastic. What do You guys do from start of heating to shooting the colored plastic into the mold. How long do You cook the plastic? Any good videos on the net? at what point do You add colorants? I'm as green as they get and any info will be much appreciated. Thanks Guys.CF

You tube has a ton of video's on pouring plastic but the best advice I think is to start slow. I use a microwave and pyrex cups.
    1. shake the heck out of your plastic until its good and mixed 2. I pour a half cup of plastic at a time, that way the color and plastic stays fresh. 3 I microwave 1 minute at a time and stir with a butter knife, once the plastic gets like hot Maple syrup not peacan lol its ready (you will get the feel for it) I dont go by temp beacause each mold of mine shoots a little diff. 4 When you add you color you can always add more, so just go a drop at a time. I shoot my mold with the test color to make sure thats what I want. 5. after that your good to go. I always write my colors recipes down and put a sample of that color in a bag for future reference.
if you need any help just shoot me a pm, good luck and have fun.......OH WEAR GLOVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!

You should be good without stabilizer for atleast two heats as long as you do not overheat it. Mo is pretty on with the 1 minute and check, however, depending on the microwave, I can not do it in mine in one minute intervals. I might only need 30 seconds on the last heat, because a minute will scorch it. Like he said though, you will get the hang of it. The videos will help, but trial and error with your equipment will work best. Get the basic ideas from the videos and then play with it. You will get the hang of it.

The most important thing for you to know though is safety. The stuff will burn you badly, I am a witness. The slightest little mistake or wrong move can get you hurt. Read up on some of the safety tips first. Have lots of fun and be ready to spend more money on it.
