well speck guess i will have to take your word for it cant get a solid response from anyone else, oh well guess i will try to find a shallow catfish lake where a man might catch a crappie later, and by the way speck nice fish on the butla

Yes I have fished the lake several times. Good for catfish, bass and hybrids but the crappie have really been impacted negatively by stocking those hybrids. Very little deep water, most less than 8ft deep. I would think that the best bet might be to follow the creek channel and look for deeper water associated with it. I believe there are some brush piles close to where the outlet is from the power plant. Good luck if you go.

Sorry Ranger i just started typing and didnt read enough.:o I do know that in the winter if they are generating power there that you need to have your butt in deepwater creek cuase the slabs will stack in that warmer discharge water running outta Montrose. It can be fabulous fishing when its not anywhere else on Truman. 18 inches below a float and drag it past the stumps that line both banks.

I lived a few miles from it for a few years. It was not even worth the 10 minute drive. Very shallow and always muddy. Never had any luck with the crappie there. Everyone says you can get out by the end of the discharge and catch some nice cats but never tried it. It also has lots of snakes at times. The place to be is below the dam in the early spring. Huge crappie and white bass between the low water bridge and the dam. Dipping the bank and any laydowns or trees. I have seen many many 2 lb and better fish come from there. Small boats can put in at the low water bridge when the water is up and motor up. Also some good catfishing in the summer time if you want to drag the boat some to get up below the dam.

ive duck hunted montrose and it is shallow. jiggin15 is correct,the low water bridge by ladue bottoms is where the crappie stack up.also its a good place to catch shad. this spring there would be several vehicles there constantly. but the crappie ran small this year.its private land on the banks sooo u need to wade it or ask where its ok to fish from the bank.

beagle, did u really want to catfish? i run with some greenfield to stockton guys.we catfish truman ,but mainly jugs etc.if u wanna try it let me know. i have a few acres and a cabin there.we like company and fish every couple weeks.ooo i do have a pond there that has crappie.

This has been covered already but, yes it is a shallow and muddy lake. I used to duck hunt there 20-25 years ago. I never did any crappie fishing there, but we used to do really well on largemouth. The bass were always very chunky. I don't think I ever caught anything over 4-5 lbs but overall quality was very good. The lake (at that time anyway) had a 10 hsp limit so I used a 14' flat bottom. I primarily used spinnerbaits along the weed lines. (which is most of the lake) I used to throw the standard white and chartreuse colors until a friend turned me on to black with copper blades. That color always did much better for some reason.

Someone mentioned there were a lot of snakes on the lake and I will second that. We always saw a bunch of snakes there and even had a couple try to hitch a ride in the boat before that got whacked with a paddle.

I have not fished there in 20 years so the above may not be worth reading.
