    Default Lake Blalock

I fished Lake Blalock in Spartanburg County for the first time today. I got a late start and hit the water about 11:am. The parking lot was overflowing. I would guess 40-45 boats there.

I don't know much about the lake and NOTHING when it comes to fishing it.
I have been on the water there 2 times but have never wet a hook before today.
Anyway No crappie, and 1- 8(inch) bass. I thought that was small until my brother hooked and boated a 5(inch) bass. :D

Oh well It was fun to be on the water and I learned alot about the lay of the land around the water. I plan to try again Monday or Tuesday.

    Conditions
Slitely stained water with a temp of 63.
Wind calm to 5 mph until 4: pm or so when it picked up to 10-12 mph.

Fishing a new lake will make you think at least y'all didn't get skunked. Hope you have a better catch next time out.

You might want to try early on Mon or Tues. I dont know about anybody else, but the morning bite has been WAY better than the mid-day or evening bite for me. Might have something to do with all the boats churning the water, maybe the wind getting up...dunno.

When I go most any where, I try to be on the water at first light or before and I do think your right about weekday fishing.
Yesterday was one of those spur of the moment trips. My brother said "FISHING" and my little brain didn't comprehend that it might not be a good time. All I heard was "FISHING!!!!" Ha Ha Ha

Try up around Buck creek bridge area, use to fish there every weekend. Caught a lot of fish on that lake, nothing real big though. Back in the early 90's.

    Thanks Countryboy N.C.,
There were several pontoons tied up there yesterday, and I know they weren't there to get out of the sun.
I have a Lowrance x18c and it showed that there is A LOT OF BRUSH under that bridge.
I hope to be there real early one day this week. :D

Blalock is a good lake to fish. No tubing or jet ski and thus less idiots to try and run you over while you are fishing. I just wish they would increase their limit to 40hp for outboards. I would never go to Bowen again.

Bowen gets really crazzzzzy. The hp rating at Bowen is too high. For that small lake it should be no higher than 75.
Bowen can get like an ocean real quick and there are a lot of fools on the lake.

I have a 15-hp motor but I agree that Blalock could stand to go to 40 across the board rather than 30 for regular boats and 40 for pontoons. The 30-40 rule never has made any sense. I guess that rule was made by someone who doesn't fish.
