Thread: Brownlee Res.

Well Gents, after my disappointment last Sat. at Lk. Sams, I've decided to try my luck on the Snake and Powder rivers this weekend . If all go according to plans, we'll leave Friday around 10pm and set up camp at Hewitt Park sometime early Saturday morning. All the reports I've received indicate the slabs are biting, and the channel cats are stealing all unattended rod and reels.

Did you make it down this weekend Chris? How was the catching?

On a side note: I went down to Lake Union over the weekend to see if the night bite had started. Tuff, tuff, crappie fishing down there as well. Got 6 but had to work hard for them, all where under 9". I'll try it again tonight since the weather has gotten better.

Ever since the cassini space rove started sending back photos of Saturn, the fish stopped biting. Maybe the aliens have taken them all. Anyway, my trip to Brownlee turned out ok. I say ok because we didn't catch ANY crappie. None, not even what could be mistaken for a crappie bite. However, we did pretty good as far as channel cats and bass were concerned. Both the Powder and the Snake rivers are covered as far as the eye can see with krill. I've never seen so many shiners, minnows or whatever you want to call them in one place in all my life. There had to be trillions of them feeding on the krill. Of course the crappie then feed on them, and were not inclined to bite jigs, maggots, nibblets, wax worms, meal worms, worms, hooks, sponge or anything else we tried to lure them in with. Although I didn't catch any crappie I had a great time. We got to do some night fishing, and we hung out on the Snake river. How bad can life be. I think I'll start paying more attention to the Lunar fishing phases..........

At least you caught something. I don't mind catching cats one bit, same goes for smallmouth. I don't know what's going on with the crappie this year, it's even been slow at Potholes which should be going full steam ahead right now. Didn't get a single crappie at Union last night just perch and sticklebacks. Tight Lines fellas.........

Mike how's this weekend looking for you? My old fishing buddy Big Mike, wants to do something on Saturday. According to the Alien/Lunar guide it should be great this weekend. By the way I'm going out in the morning.......

My weekend is all cleared Chris. Where are you guys thinking about heading? Hope you find a mess of crappie out there today.

I went to Lk. Sawyer this morning and caught one little small crappie (still a crappie), 2 bass and a gang of perch. I released them all, but was very happy with the action because it was in a part of the lake where I had never fished before. However, I was shocked to learn that they've started charging $5 a day to park. I don't know where we're fishing this weekend, I was hoping you'd have a suggestion.

I've been hearing about people getting $100 tickets for not paying the parking fees at Sawyer . The state is getting a little crazy with this crap now. The tax payer paid to build and maintain the park and now they want to charge you to use your own property.

There's a few places we could try. Union, Tanwax, Ohop, Sammy. Hell we could fill a stringer off the dock at Kapowsin. If you'd like to stay close to town we should be able to find them on Union or hunt them down on Sammy. There's a launch downtown that puts you right onto Union.

If you want to try something different we could hit Tanwax. Lots of bluegill, crappie, perch, and brushpiles. Good fishing in front of the inlet creek were there's a drop off at about 12'.

well I thought I would let you guys know how I did with my crawdad traps.I went to whidby island,was charged 10.80 one way and 7.80 coming back.So I got to deer lk. and there were some kids by the public launch so I had no way to stash my ropes from the traps so I took off the ropes,set the traps and came back the next day with my scuba gear.after being committed to return,I was forced to pay 18.50 one way due to being over height and another 17.00 coming back,I showed them my reciept from the previous day and the guy told me I got lucky on the fee.what a joke,I even parked with all the other regular cars.anyways so I got down to my traps and you can see crawdads hiding under these old concrete beams by my traps,I caught about 10 in my traps and caught about another 25 by diving.I was glad I had my diving knife because there was a nice size one tangled in some fishing line which I cut loose.It was cool to see bass hiding under the dock and under sunken trees.
It is a shame to see how much fishing line is thrown in the water,people really dont know or seem to care how bad it is for all the creatures who live in the lake,they dont have hands to free themselves like we do.

That story makes me want to setup a toll stop on my street :D. That just might make it affordable to live were I'm at :p.

That lake must be full of bass with all that bait for them to eat. We used to go down to Lake Union at night when I was a kid to catch crawdads. We'd use a size 10 hook ran through a chunk of perch and use a flash light to find the crawdads on the brken rock banks found on the westside of the lake. We'd drop the bait right in front of them and wait for them to clamp on. Then we would slowly pull them out of the water and place a bucket under 'em and they drop right in. Man that used to be fun. My dad would boil those suckers up and you talk about fine eating! They still commerical fish for them on Lk Washington. One of the regular old guys that traps them out there says they get up to about 10" long in the deeper water.
