    Default New River Blues

I went to see my mother in Law for the first time since she moved to Giles county over the last couple days. While Googling the directions I realized the New River was in her backyard!! After some reading on DGIF site I found that 4 state records had been set in and around Giles county. I was pumped!! When I got out there a nice cold front settled in and the rain began to fall. I only managed to catch a few redeye while I was out there but wow what a beautiful place. I cant wait to go back, just need a canoe and some fast river fishin lessons:D

Lived in Radford for two years and married a Pulaski girl, like you the New River was in my back yard and I never fished it. Brain had dropped at the time. It's a beautiful river and lots of good fish. Small mouth and muskie. Did go muskie fishing a couple of times with a friend a few years back. We put in at a public ramp outside of Blacksburg. Snowed like hell that day and got stranded up there.Have not been back since. Always heard that you better take someone with you that knows the river. There can be some nasty places to get caught up in.
Ask your mother n law if she knows a family named Vencil up there. Use to run a dump truck company. Went to school with him.
Those redeye are some good eating.

The guides out there catch some monsters!! I couldn't imagine hooking into a 6pound smallmouth in that fast water. I bet they go nuts.

Doodlum I forgot to ask my Mother in law about the Vencils but if they lived around Ripplemead Im sure she knows em.
