What do ya'll think?? Disease or Injury??

I caught a small LMB on Gaston yesterday that had sustained some type of injury or disease. Please go to this link to see the picture:

That is one gross looking little dude. He was fine other than the missing mouth parts. I put him back, without touching him I might add!

I think that you are right about the injury leading to an infection. I wouldn't think that a fish with a disease that ate away part of its head would be chasing down jigs and if it was that bad of a disease you would be catching some more fish that looked like that. That is definately one gross lookin' dude. Did you think about maybe calling the game commission and letting them have a look at him?

I sent a pic to the VDGIF and the biologist agreed that it looked like an infected injury caused the damage.
