Default Heat pump quotes coming in

I am starting to get quotes from local HVAC companies to replace my old unit. My delimma is I don't know one brand from another so hard to compare apples to oranges. I think most of my quotes will be for Trane equipment so I will be able to compare those to each other for price.

What about York? I have a quote for a nice sounding system but do not know how York compares to Trane quality wise.

Not my place to trash anyone's equipment as i deal with a mixed bag of all.I replace York units yearly that have preformed well.I do not go back with York, personal thing, which may or may not have merit. As a hvac tech i of course look for servicing ease and call back times.I have had good luck with both York and Trane. Both will hit you with OEM parts.I personally fell that York overdoes it in controls leading to longer diganosis time and expense.I have two Trane units at my home. Not trying to sell you on anything, just telling you my choice.More expensive up front however.York and Carrier have a tendency to over control their equipment for repair cost.Once again, personal opinion which will vary as many times as however many tech's you ask.

Like I said Trane is in a class by itself (IMHO). Do yourself a favor, ask your contractor to tell you how easy it is to get parts for each, compare parts prices. Extend the warranty on the compressor no matter which one you get.

You only have 2 choices.....Lennox & the rest of them.......Most heat pumps I know of call for backup at around 28 degrees...My Lennox Hp26 will keep heating way below 28 degrees...My neighbor has gone thru a Trane 900 and 2 1200s while this Lennox keeps on ticking..

If I had to replace it and couldn't with a Lennox I would choose a York..

I agree with Don. Lennox is good stuff. I have (4) 75 ton Tranes on the roof here at work. I have to take care of them all. It took my company $120,000 to divorce us from Trane energy management systems. It will take a nearly equal amount to get them out entirely, JUST contracts. Like I said, Trane works well, but when things start breaking you will wish you had never heard of them. Short of contactors, relays, and freon, every part HAS to come from Trane, by design. I can't go just anywhere and get parts, I have to go through Boland Trane in Rockville Md, and pay whatever price they want.

Also, if they don't already have it, insist on a scroll compressor. They have a 3 micron tolerance on the valve system, that translates into efficiency and reliability beyond your wildest dreams (if installed right). While geothermal is a top performer, any HP will make you wish you never met your contractor when that reversing valve or controls go bad.

When I had my heat pump replaced three years ago, the tech installed a Ducane unit for $3500 which included running additional ducts to the room over the garage so the temperature in there would be tolerable. Ducane is a cheaper version of Trane. Most of the internal components are the same. I'm not sure what they do to save production cost on the Ducane units.
