Spent the last 10 days or so hunting for crappie spawning. Casting with one pole, one lure under a float right to shore. Caught up to 10 a day and up to 13.5 inches. More males than females. Let most go, keep 4 at 12" most days just a good mess for dinner. Did not freeze any.
Sort of odd, one day they wanted chartruse, next day white, next day purple with a chartruse tail. Did fare with the sliders on roadrunner heads and 1/8 oz heads. All I cast last year was white. I tried different colors this year. Me thinks they will hit anything they can see. When the dark tannic water was like tea I did better than when it was muddy. I do not know the names of all the little creeks or if they even have a name. Single trees in a cove seemed to be hot. Hit the tree with the lure and let it fall and just sit, twitch and wham!
Think I am going to make a gaff to lift them grinnel (just to measure/unhook)

Put in at the public ramp on Poyner's Rd. all the way to the bay. In and out all the little coves, canals up to homes. I may get to know this area a little better. Not much pressure and lots of area to learn. Found one hole 17 feet and a few at 13'. Lots of shallow 2' deep flats at high water. If I remember rain mudddies up this creek real bad.
You covered a lot of area. You may know this but if the main river is muddy its usually caused by run off from farmland. If you were coming up the river from the bridge you come to an area we have always called the "Y" since you have to go left or right. There is a lot of farmland way up to the right so the mud comes down it then down river. The leg going towards Poyner's is usually a lot clearer.
If you like gil fishing, go out of the ditch from Poyner's and turn left. Go up a ways and you will see a lot of cyprus trees in the water on your right. I have caught a lot of nice ones around those trees over the years using beetle spins.

Sounds like you had a good couple days of fishing. Congrats on the catch!
