    Default BPS Jig hooks

Is anyone having problems with Bass Pro Shop crappie jig hooks? I just bought a box about 3 months ago and have broken probably 10. I was fishing with 4lb test line today and I had 6 jig hooks break. Two on nice size fish. I am frustrated.

They are prolly another one of those "Made in China" products. Take them back to the store and let them know, be sure to show them where they broke so they have something to go on. What brand were they so I can avoid them?

Unless you've tampered with or tempered them, they shouldn't break.

For around $20 and a few $$ S/H ... you can get Grousefly to custom make you 100 jigheads. Head weight/hook size/hook color of your choice.

I use his jigheads, and I've never had a hook "break". But, don't take my word for it ... ask DonG what he thinks of them

I have been using a bunch of BPS jigheads this season and they are working fine. Maybe you got a bad batch. Disconcerning news as I was preparing to place another order for some. I'm going through jigheads like crazy.

I have used a lot of BPS jigs and have never had a problem. I bought some Road Runner heads yesterday that I am going to try... I'll let you know how they work for me.

I had bought a box of colored jig heads (1/16oz) from BPS a year or two ago and had the same problem. Lost a decent sized crappie next to my boat when the hook broke. I haven't used them since.

I lost 2 nice ones about half way to to boat because of it. I suppose it is possible that I weakened them a little by getting hung but 6 in a day and 4 before that is a little crazy.

Paul has made some for me too. He does excellent work using excellent material. His prices are very reasonable.

Thanks for the heads-up, NA. It's sad we've reached the point where you can't even trust something as simple as a hook. (Imagine the manufacturer's specs--"no more than 4 out of 6 items may be defective.")

I don't remember a broken jig hook, but do recall a broken bait hook lately. I'll watch hook performance more closely & will deep-6 remaining stock of any type that breaks.

I am thinking with mass production they are overheated and disstempered and become brittle ...a smaller supplier and american made would probably be your best bet ...with snags that are pretty tight and getting back and not bent could be a sign of over hardened ,,,,only time I like stiff hooks is when in the larger size and octapus style...I even change the hooks on my cranks due to the hardness,,Have had them break before ......good luck !!!!
