We have all done it. Pulling on a hung-up jig hoping it will come loose or just to break it off. Dang it, they come back fast. I took off Tuesday afternoon and hit the river. Found a tree loaded with fish. They were eating minnows as fast as we could get them in the water. My buddy kept fishing minnows and I started tossing a jig. First a hair jig and then a 2" plastic grub. The fish were snatching in on the fall!!!

Unfortunately, they were all 1-2 pound catfish. They were smashing that hair jig! We had a blast, but only managed 2 crappie.

Casting to the bank some, I hung up my 1/16oz jig/grub. Like always I pull on it to free it or break it. I tighten up the line, point the rod at the jig, and hold the spool/bail so it can't slip and pull back. So the stress it on the bail roller, not the rod. Will I was expecting the 4 pound line to break, but WHIZZ-POP! Here it comes. I always turn my head away to protect my eyes. That little joker came back and hit me sqaurely on the index finger. Right above the finger nail, but below the first joint. No meat there. Brought back memories of fingers in car doors when I was young! Made my eyes water and I said some really awful things, right out loud, dancing, spinning, sweating, crying but mostly just good-ole-fashion searing pain and profanity.

Got me to thinking about my eyes. I don't wear glasses, and most of the time don't even where sun glasses. Jimminy Christmas that would put an eye out. I've got to be more careful. That Suffix yellow 4 pound line is some tough stuff!

Nice weather coming...............have fun............be safe!
