I fished for five hours on Saturday, February 22, and the water temperature had dropped to 43*. When I went two weeks ago, it was 53*.
The white perch were thick and aggressive, and I had to get away from them to catch some crappie.
I started using both hair-jigs and plastic-tube jigs lately, and I pair them with small minnows. I found crappie in about 8 feet of water, and white perch when I drifted in to 6 feet of water. I also threw back four small green carp.
Of course, I took home a bunch for the table: 10 crappie, 14 white perch and 1 sorta-ugly fish:
Good luck!
