Got on the river around sunrise, picked up 7 tiny crappie up Blackwater Creek then 38 more up West Neck Creek. Money jig caught most of them then finished up with Blue Ice. Fishing in water around 7' deep, caught them from 1' deep to 5' deep. Caught some of the smallest crappie I have ever seen. One at 12oz and another at 10oz, other than that, small, small, small. I was off the water around 11:00. Surface water temp was 87-88.
This river is only 8 miles from where I am now renting a house, I have caught a few over 1lb in there over the last few years, but not many, too bad there aren't any monsters in there. or perhaps I just don't know where they are hiding?
Caught of all things a carp. Odd.

Good to see you're getting out. I fished out there for twenty years when I was living out that way, never caught many over a pound. Best luck I had for bigger ones was up past Indian River Rd. It's real narrow up there and I wouldn't go till the weather was cold enough to put the snakes to hibernating, biggest moccasins I've ever seen up there and lots of them. I've heard rumors of some big crappies up in north Back Bay and in Hell's Point Creek, not sure where the nearest launch is any more.

How about North Bay Shore Campground? I put in there once, a long time ago.
Tap, I used to fish back-bay a lot in the 70s, especially the canals at Sandbridge. They were loaded with crappie in the spring. The biggest crappie I have ever seen, my wife caught with minnow and bobber, in one of those canals.
