Default Buggs Island or other good fishing

I am looking to go on a spring trip for crappie from Pa. In the past I have fished Anna,Orange, and some of the areas in the Williamsburg area such including the Chic. Thinking of Buggs Island. Other then what I have read and from on the site I know very little about it. I assume early April is a good time for shallow water fishing. Also I am a working man on a budget. Any info on were to stay ,fish or whatever is appreciated. As in the past thank you for all the good information and I promise to leave a few for you to catch. Tony

I am a fly fishermen. Use a 8 1/2 foot 6 weight rod with streamers and dark colored wet flys as needed. If need be I will fish a ultra light spinning rod with 1/32 and 1/64 ounce jigs. Location is 6 feet in depth or less. If need go deeper that is when I use the spinning outfit. Many lakes have caddis and other flys emerging and crappie seem to love them in early spring. At times large catches can be made with them as well as streamers.

I'm from S.E. PA and usually hit Bugg's in the spring and in the fall. I'll be camping there with Gene also in late April for 10 days. There's a couple hotels in Clarksville and their rates are over $100 per night. Occoneechee State Park has 2 bedroom cabins for rent, and run about $125 a night or $625 a week. The fill up fast, so now would be the time to reserve. Army Corps has a number of nice campgrounds. Rudd's Creek and Longwood Park are the ones I stay at. I think the rates are $26 per night, and if you have the geezer pass, it's $13 per night. In the spring I have had good luck trolling in 5 to 7 feet of water. Can't help you with any wisdom on flyfishing Bugg's.

I use to go over there for a week every spring with 4 or 5 friends. We always stayed at The Little Retreat. The have cabins off the beaten path with all the conveniences of home and cheaper than the motels and near the ramp on Buffalo Creek. I believe they are on Facebook but I'm not so I can't give you a link.

Here's a camp on the road to Buffalo Park. Cripple Creek Fish Camp - John H. Kerr / Buggs Island Lake

Try this for the Little Retreat.

Thanks for the good information. I have been online and getting some options. It is a fare piece from Pa to Buggs so as posted how about some other places? We have a small fishing group of about 10 guys and last years trip for crappie was just 2 of us. Looking forward to some warmer weather, it is 29 deg as I speak.

Here's a link to the Kerr board, not a lot of post but sometimes some really good info.
