Late last summer the boat was not producing power (it's a 2001 Mercury 25HP bigfoot) and I discovered the fuel line to the tank was deteriorated. I replaced and cleaned everything the in fuel system but she still wouldn't produce power and now had a noticeable knocking noise. I had a crazy fall, winter and spring and just now had time to start thinking about the boat again. I thought the tick was valve train related but that checked out.

I pulled the head and found the cylinder walls scored.

Now wondering what to do with the pile of parts

I can rebuild for about $400 in parts plus machine work (who knows how much that will be)

I can try to find a remanufactured powerhead (scoured the internet and haven't found one yet)

Repower for about $4000 if I stay with the 25 or $5000 if I bump up the the max rated 40hp
