Went to the pamunkey river this afternoon with my cousin for some crappie fishing. Heard they been catching some number and size. We didn't start till 3. Fished till 7. Minnows and jigs did the job. Most caught on the bank in 2-4fow. Must have had 10 keepers in only 15 mins. Out going tide was the best. Caught 30 crappie and 3 ringers with one at 12.5". 3 bass up to 2lbs. Had 23 keeper crappie. Looked like most were males. Very dark in color. A couple females but no eggs. Already laid I guess.great day for sure. Most fish average 11- 12". Biggest was 3 at 13"+.

Looks like a good day to me!
Out of curiosity, how far (ball park) from West Point are you guys fishing?
I take barges to the to the pulpmill about once a month and I was pretty sure it was still saltwater at that point. We catch lots of croaker at the dock by the bridge.
very good day, nice fish
That is a nice mess of freckle. Great job!
Life's too short to fish with dead minnows!
Does the pamunkey get a shad run?
Oh yeah. But not like the fishing below Richmond where they pile up before the rapids and rocks. Herring too. And stripers. It's a quiet river so don't invite all your friends.
Shhhhhh.... I love the Pamunkey. Like you said it is a quite little river. Pay no attention to this post. No fish there.![]()
What a great day of fishing.
