My buddy, Tim, and I hit a Suffolk lake today. We started at 0830 (I know, I late start) and stopped at about 1430. To say the fish were chewing would be an extreme understatement. We ended up catching five nice bluegill (9+"), one 13"+ YP and 164 crappie. We kept the YP and 43 of the crappie. We caught a decent number of dink crappie, but the vast majority were 11"+. Almost all of the fish we kept were better thank 12".
The day started with the fish in less than 6' and we were catching them casting and with jigs under a bobber. As the day wore on the fish moved deeper. By the time we left we were catching them right on the bottom in 12'. We left the fish in a feeding frenzy. We simply had enough fun for one day. The favorite today was BGBS in Cajun Cricket. Tim goofed around with a junebug/chartreuse slider and caught fish, but they wanted the cricket today. I started with that color and never changed.
It was one of the most epic days I've had for crappie in Suffolk. I've had days that I caught more than 100, but never had a day where an 11 1/2" crappie didn't even raise an eyebrow. If we would have stayed, we would have easily surpassed 200 fish on the day. Once we figured out they moved deeper and were right on the bottom, we were getting bit every cast for more than an hour. We didn't always catch the fish, but it was fast action.
We don't get many days like that around here and I was sure happy to have one. Best of luck to everyone, the fish are in the fall bite for sure.
By the way, I couldn't figure out how to flip the photo of Tim, sorry about that (my neck hurts, also).
Wow!! That is a nice catch.

Holy Moley! Awesome day. Congrats.
Great day, those are some nice fish for sure. Thanks for sharing.
Good catching. I see you have the same problems with your pictures as I have.![]()
Excellent report and nice pics, but you threw back the best meal?? Nothing finer than a 9+" gill!
Great day and great pics, thanks.

Great job--thanks for the report. I can't wait 'till I hit that kind of luck!
