    Default Rural Retreat Lake 7-6-14

Made it to the lake around 6:00 this morning. Was the third or fourth boat on the lake.

I added some rod holders to my canoe. Wanted to try out a sort of spider rig today.

I started using tube baits, small twister tail grubs, and minnows as bait. Wasn't really sure if I was going fast enough to give my lures any action, so I ended up using two poles with minnows as my kind of spider rig. (Didn't take me long to figure out that 4 poles with two lures/baits each, plus my kayak paddle, was a lot to keep up with.) I also pitched a small twister tail grub up against the bank.

Ended the day with 5-6 crappie, 1 LMB, and 1 Pike (I think). Caught the Pike and the Crappie pictured on the spider rods. Everything else on the grub. I did hook something nice on a minnow on one of my spider poles. Only kept it on for about 5 seconds, but it had some weight to it.

Biggest crappie was only around 10". Not a monster.

I am right across the line in Gate City. Well, Hiltons actually.

Sadly 10" is a decent fish for there lol... But there are plenty up there... Yeah you live pretty close to me I need to start trying to fish more down this way instead of driving so far to fish... Got a buddy getting married next weekend think we might do the pay fish thing at cripple creek Sunday not sure tho... Well happy fishing... Have you tried hidden valley or bark camp yet?

I have been to Bark Camp a few times this year. It's a pretty place up there.

    Never fished Hidden Valley.
