Although not a major fishery, Chandler's Mill Pond is nearby, public, and a nice size for yak fishing. Even if the fish don't jump in your boat, how many lakes have you fished that dated back to 1670?

I'm currently working a lot in Montross Va which is located in NE Va. I have a lot of free evenings and nights so I'm looking for some places close by to get in on some great crappie fishing. I use a sit on top 14.5' kayak for a fishing platform.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Corker thanks for the information and I have fished Chandlers Mill Pond already this week. I would like to find some serious slab waters.
You're not going to find anything close to Montross. I've never fished the Rappahannock in the Port Royal area, but that's a possibility. Also there are a number of lakes on Fort A. P. Hill. You may find other acceptable (but not "serious") fisheries in DGIF's listings, here.
I have been researching the DGIF's site and have found a few options that are about an hour drive.
