I missed the bash, this past weekend I attended the OrangeCounty High School Fishing Team’s 10th Annual Sportsmans Expo atOrange County High School. I was manning a table for Holiday Lake 4-H Centerpromoting the upcoming Fishing Camp and the Rod Building class. There was alocal taxidermist at the show with a huge crappie mount. When I asked him, hesaid it was a replica of the world record black crappie and weighed 7 pounds !!He had no idea where or when it was caught, just that “it’s on the internet “.I looked and looked and I could find no mention of a 7 pound world recordcrappie. Or a picture of one. The biggest verified I could find was 5 poundseven. I thought the IFGA record was still the Kerr caught 4 pound 8 oz. And theVirginia record is 4 pounds 10 oz. Here is what’s on the IFGA site-

Here are two pictures I took of the mount. It’s about 2 feetlong and very thick. Anybody else out there ever heard of this fish ? Seemslike some BS to me………………………If it’s the world record where’s the information ?Who caught it ? And where ?
Oh yeah, the Expo was great. The weather kept many vendorsand attendees away but this show was one of the best I’ve ever been to. BeckyGore and the Orange County High School Anglers are some of the finest outthere. Those young boys and girls were extremely polite, very well mannered andhelpful. Becky and the rest of her crew have done a fantastic job and put on awell organized, well run event. I’ll be back next year. Here is the flyer fromthis year-
