Tried BM Sunday arrived 9:30 fished until 1:00.
3 boats total were on the water when I left, water temp stayed 38 & 39 degrees, wind not bad...
Had 3 bites 0 fish caught.
Tried two spots that produced well this time of year in the past but they would not take.
I talked to one other fisherman and he said he caught only 1 as he was also packing up...
Thats my story and im sticking to it :-)
Maybe when the temps get up a bit warmer, should be better then.

Water looks nice. Shame on the bites. Rude fish!

I do not know the reason, but when the Suffolk lakes shut down they really shut down. In bygone days this shutdown would chase me to the Nottoway or Blackwater.

Similar report from BM on Sunday. Meade bait shop was closed in the morning so no minnows. I have more confidence with minnows on jigs during cold weather. Three fish on and only one to the boat. Blue white twister tail caught only fish and one other bite. 5 rods with BGBS did not produce today only one bite. Tried white nibbles on a few baits with no success. The few bites we got were near bottom in 26 feet of water.

Jan. 18th I caught 56 there off the bottom, two weeks later after the cold spell, zero. This has been one of the coldest winters I can recall. It has the crappie all confused.

Its like that right now. Friday My uncle went to Pembroke and slayed the crappie. said they bit all day. 2 days later a friend of mine went and almost got skunked after putting in about 6 straight hours on them. I think the weather has a lot to do with it right now. weather system after weather system moving through has them putting on and taking off the feed bag and this unusually cold water is having an effect on them that we are not used too. I would be looking for them in the deep holes right on the bottom but sometimes they are not there or they won't bite but there are more active fish shallower that will as was the case at IT last friday. Had to target the active fish. There were not many active fish.CF
