They aren't pretty, but in a pinch you can substitute electrical ring terminals for the original tops on fixed-line poles. Pick the smallest size you have on hand (or care to buy) and glue them on with epoxy. Yes, this is crude...but if the tip's already broken once, another part of the rod will probably break before long. This is just a cheap way to stretch the useful life of a cheap rod.
