What kind of fishing reel do you guys use?

I'm looking for a reel to go on my 6'8" fenwick ultra light rod... What kind of reels do you guys like? I have a few shimano saharas and pflueger presidents just want a new reel for it... Thanks guys!

I prefer Shimano spinning reels and over the years have tried just about them all. When I retired I bought myself a gift consisting of a 6½' St Criox rod with a Shimano Stella 2500 on it. It is by far the finest rig I have ever owned. My second best would be a Symetre or Sahara.

My dad is retiring in I believe 22 work days... Lol he keeps reminding me but the company gave him a $1000 cabelas card for being there 30 years and he just bought him a pretty sweet combo the other night... I'm happy for him he has worked hard... But I think he went with a pflueger supreme? I just wanted something that feels solid and smooth and a bonus would be light weight... I can't swing the price on a Stella nice combo I almost bought a new st croix trout series rod but they said I wouldn't be able to get it until 2nd week of January so I chose to go with fenwick again... I don't spend a lot on crappie gear, usually no more than 30 on the rod and 20-30 on the reel, my best crappie reel would be a pfluger president, Payed 60 on that one, also use a lot of shimano 500s they are cheap (like 19$) but get the job done. And I do a lot of casting, just not very far... Usually I know exactly where I'm trying to get my jig and I creep up just close enough to fling a jig... I have caught a few thousand crappie on a few of those 20$ shimano 500s and had em for over 5 years... Far as rods I usually catch the occasional tip on a bridge or whatever so I never spend a whole lot on em... Usually either buy Shakespeare micro lights or cabelas classics in 5'6 or 6' UL

I've been usin the Shimano Stradic C1 4 last few yrs an really like it. its very lite an smooth. got the best drag i've seen. been durable so far. I use the 2500 size to keep down coiling line.

Nothing but Pfluegers in my boat. I switched to them years ago and haven't looked back. Very well priced to boot.

Ive found the Pflueger reel to have a very smooth drag and have them on my 18' poles. Cant tell you if they are good for casting but i suspect not as the spool is only as big as a quarter. The one that is on my casting pole is a cheap wallworld one, i think its a mitchell. I got this to cast because the spool is large and can fling a 1/32 oz jig 25-30 ft.

I find the Tica Cetus SB 50 to be a bulletproof ultralight reel. I have been using two of them for close to ten years and have not had a single thing go wrong with them. They are a bit hard to find, do an internet search. It is a popular reel with the trout crowd.
The smaller line capacity of the SB50 makes it economical to use the higher priced (like Berkely nano fil, my favorite for ultrlight spinning) lines. The spool diameter matches up well with the botom guide on most ultralight rods (I am using Cabela's 6' ultralights for open water fishing as well as a B&M Sam Heaton Super sensitive 7'). Unlike Trophy King, I prefer a smaller spool for casting. If the bottom guide on the rod is too much smaller than the spool size the loop has to compress too quickly as it comes off the spool during a cast, dispersing the kinetic energy quickly, also causing twisting and limiting the cast length. I look for rods with large bottom guides and try to keep my spool diameters close to twice the diameter of the guide. On my 6 footers, using 6lb nano fil I can easily cast 50 feet with a 1/24 or 1/16 oz. jig.
