A little report for anyone interested in the Chick River:
I was out for about 2 hours on a falling tide yesterday afternoon. I had the t-holder on the front deck equipped with 2- 10' poles, one of each side of the boat, and the side holders set up with 6' poles. Double 1/24 oz. jigs on the long rods with BG shad and single 1/16 oz jigs on the 6 foot rods with Kalin grubs. I long lined in 9-11 FOW (about as deep as was available with the tide out) and picked up 5 crappie around 10" and one bonus striper that hit one of the BG shad. Lots of bait in the channel showing on the depth finder. Crappie were caught in the channel off the mouths of creeks and were not tightly schooled. Long stretches of water with no bites.
They should be coming soon Don, my guess is around Thanksgiving.
Thanks Don for the heads up. How is your project boat coming along.
I finally got into some nicer fish this past weekend. Saturday morning yielded about a dozen between 1-1-1/2 lbs. Same technique, just further down river.
jim b- I haven't started on the Tidecraft. I spent the spring and most of the summer redoing my "fish house" (shed) then tearing down the old Fisher getting it ready for scrap. It's ready to go now and I hope to get it up to recycling over the next couple of wekends. I plan to use the Cox drive on trailer that the Fisher is currently sitting on for the Tidecraft (I just don't trust the 1971 Mooney). First I need to rework the trailer, then get the Tidecraft on it. Sometime next spring I hope to be in full swing with the Tidecraft. By next Fall I think you will see the Tidecraft on the river. I guess I'll just have to keep fishing out of the Ouachita this winter!
Make sure you take pictures along the way while restoring your boat.
Thanks for the report!

Thanks Don, I plan on starting fishing there soon. Just restrung my long poles the other day.
What size is your Tidecraft
Hi jim!
I believe it may be the same hull that you have. It's a 15' (on the title). It actually tapes out at about 14-8.
Still has the stick steering and the original cast aluminum pedestals, factory installed rod holders, and sports a 1978 Evinrude 35.
If you are fishing the Chick, feel free to tie up at the pier (painted grey, two white chairs) and come up to the house and check it out.
