Saturday-Chick Lake-Fog-Wind-37 crappie

I decided to pay Chick Lake a visit and was greeted with some pretty thick fog.





I landed 10 nice crappie on my first stop with most of them between 12oz-15oz. Then the fog started to lift and the bite shut down.



It took me less than one hour to catch the first ten then nearly 7 hours to catch the next ten. It went from calm to winds gusting up to 23mph. Made it really hard to fish in my go to spots. It's just as well as I think I learned today that once the water temp on this lake gets below 60 degrees the crappie no longer hang on structure and are scattered in open water. I say this as later in the day I switched over to long lining two poles with two others hanging over the side in water around 12'-14' deep and I caught 22 of my 37 crappie this way. I did best with Kalin's Money jig and a Natural Cricket BGBS with chartreuse/pearl wasshoppah's on my vertical poles. I caught crappie from a couple feet deep up to ten feet deep. Most of the crappie later in the day were ten feet deep.



I showed surface water temp between 55-58 degrees.

I agree George it started out to be a nice morning till the wind started to blow. I was surprised the water temps dropped 10 degrees in one week. All and all good report!!!

Did you have any bass boats scream up the lake regardless of the fog? Some of them think its fine to run by GPS.

Nice report George...not many places on that lake are 16.7' deep. Good report and that is still a beautiful lake. Cool pics.

Don't get me started on bass fishermen. I could hear some idiots running on the river. As for the bass idiots. First I will say that I know we have members here who bass fish as well as crappie fish, I am not referring to them. Two examples, yesterday some idiot comes plowing right by me only to stop 30' away to fish then asked me how the fishing is. He couldn't slow down before he passed me? I mean literally, he stopped to fish 30' past me. I bounce around like a cork due to his wake. Second example, I am fishing in my jon boat and bass idiot #2 goes from a slow troll to full throttle as he is maybe 20' from me. As he goes by he waves. I turn my jon boat into his wake and take water over the bow. I mean really, the thought of going past me before he went full throttle never even crossed his mind. It's like these bass fishermen are oblivious to the fact that they put out a big wake when they stop and get going. Complete idiots.
