I appreciate all the input and offer for help but since I don't have the time I had a professional come by today and pick up the lower unit. The guy lives in my neighborhood and has his own business so I will let you know what he finds.

Lower unit is a mess and I am going to replace it with a used one. My mechanic said that nearly every part would need to be replaced and that even the prop shaft was messed up. Might even have the "new" lower unit on tomorrow.

Sounds like he knew what he was doing... And can't complain about the price. Now you just need to get it in the lake.
Are you saying the impeller was 16 years old?
I don't think so, I'm sure I had it replaced somewhere along the way. He gave me all the replaced parts and after looking at my impeller and others on youtube videos I really don't think that mine looks that bad.Quote:
