I decided to give Western Branch a go and landed 62 crappie before the storms chased me off the lake. The day prior I had caught a lot of 6"-7" crappie at the Northwest River and today I caught my share of 8"-9" crappie but had a dozen or so decent ones thrown in including this one that was nearly 13" and weighed 1lb 1oz.
You can see the submerged tree that I caught it off of on my fish finder. I got three off this structure but no more. These were caught 12' deep with a chartreuse/pearl wasshoppah. I got some casting Blue Ice but most casting a pearl BGBS. Later in the day I was fishing as deep as 20' and was catching bigger crappie. It seemed that the little ones were hanging around 13' down with some bigger ones below them. Water temp was 77-78.
Not that I was trying to, but I know a lot of you do, so here's a 13.25" yellow perch that I caught that weighed 1lb 2oz.
It was caught off the bottom casting a pearl BGBS.
Off to work tomorrow after a week of vacation, bummer.
