Default A quality day at LCR

Weatherwise, yesterday didn't begin as a high-quality day.

The weatherman said it was supposed to be a sunny day with shirtsleeve temps...so much for the weatherman.
Temp at launch was in the very low 50s & it never quite made it to 70. The "sunny" part took a while, too. Nevertheless,
the WT was mid-60s, the lake was at full pool, and visibility was excellent. I marked a few fish at stops #1 and 2,
but the bite was weak. Stop #3 produced a stronger bite, several pike, and this 14.5-incher.

After a couple more specks and little YP, I moved to spot #3 where one of my minnows was smacked immediately
by this 15-incher. That spot held a lot of pike, a few YP, and the most crappies of anywhere during the day.

Spot #4 yielded a 14.75-incher, and by the end of the morning, there was also a 13.75.

At the end of the day, the clicker read 29, but 13 of them were large enough to keep (>10"). With one exception,
I fished nothing but proven spots that have delivered in past springs, and my baits never left the depth range of 10' to 14'.
Wood seemed to make the difference. I caught fish in places with submerged wood & places without it did not deliver.

All fish were released to grow up.

Last year was strange, but in 2011 the LCR bite continued strong until the middle of June. As an added bonus, a 2-week delay should put you into some excellent shellcracker fishing!

Hey, forgot to tell you... Shellcrackers (100's) where stacked up at Anna point landing my last trip there.. ( they have a kids feeding station, keeps a lot of big fish close by)
Last yr, I watch a guy fishing there, he was keeping them in bucket. he said he landed 20 keepers in 10min!
