Default 4-H Fishing Camp at Holiday Lake last weekend

I spent last weekend with 29 kids aged 9-13 at Holiday Lake 4-H Educational Center 2013 Fishing Camp. We had a blast. VDGIF sent the shock boat and two lucky kids took a short ride and netted fish while the biologist shocked up a variety to show them and talk about. Another biologist from VSU came out and did a water quality program, he brought some nice catfish and they all got involved dissecting them. They loved the dissecting. We had classes on fishing safety, knot tying, made some fish crafts, and of course we fished. We were limited to bank fishing, I had posted on here and some other fishing sites asking for some help with boats and I was disappointed with the lack of responses. Also the lack of responses for donations too. At least the greenie guys came through, Region 8 VA Bass Federation donated some rods, another local bass guy bought us new Zebco 202’s and a couple other bass clubs made some generous donations. My post here asking for help was ignored and a message to the site owner brought no response. Luckily we ended up with rods, Zebco 202’s and a Plano 3600 for all 29 kids attending and even the teen leaders got one. I picked up a half dozen rods from the bargain rack at Walmart to ensure we had enough. A small price to pay for the smiles on the kids faces when they got their new rods & reels. TNT Sporting Goods in Appomattox generously gave us enough night crawlers to last the weekend. It was a fun weekend and looks like I’m signed up for next year already. Anybody willing to help next year, we’ll be looking for boats and donations again. If you’re interested in helping, contact me.

I feel bad that you didn't get a better response from everyone including me. And not to make excuses but I do know the owner of the site has been away for the past few weeks at various crappie camps. Ed is normally very quick to support anything dealing with kids. I've never associated 4-H with fishing although I think it is great. I can remember back in my younger days (40's - 50's) 4-H was always big thing at our local county fairs with farm animals.

Well your guilt trip worked. Count me in for a rod next year. Sorry you feel as though you got ignored and were disappointed in the response around here. Glad the kids had fun. Seriously, I will be happy to donate a rod for next years event. Just remind me via PM if you don't mind.
