Holiday Lake Saturday
Ended up at Holiday on Saturday, got there about noon. Fishing buddy was playing golf, grandkids all busy, called another friend but no answer so I went alone. Drug minners around and only thing that would bite them was pickerel and a couple of greenies. Water was warming, it hit 50 by about 3:00 so I cut off the live bait rigs and tied on some Kalins grubs, put out 6 rods long lining. About 4:00 I finally hit the right spot, caught 5 nice fat crappie in just 30 minutes, just before the storm blew in. Water was whitecapping, I saw the dark clouds coming so I hauled freight to the ramp, got loaded and ready for the ride home just before the downpour started. I had to stop and pull the plug out of the boat, it was filling with rain on the way home. Soaked everything in it. I hated to leave them biting but mother nature don’t play. We had heavy rain and heavy lightning for about an hour with winds gusting to about 30. Water had just hit 50 degrees, the crappie were 6 feet down in about 10-15 feet of water, all caught on Kalins, all from the same 50 yards of bank, caught just 5 but they were all like this one, 12-13 inches, nice ones. Females with eggs but not bulging with them. Threw them all back after I got the boat loaded, did not want to mess with them and a soaked boat too. Now its cold again and all week looks bad, hope they are back on that bank come Saturday. Spent yesterday drying everything and cleaning the boat, ready for the next trip. I know where I'll start next time....................
