Nice shot on that FF dude. I was in Suffolk Sunday and they were still hanging tough to the bottom. That should change soon though. Which unit do you have?

Finally got back on the water for the first time in awhile. Weatherman lied! Wind made trying to fish miserable. I fished the only spot (out of the wind) that I knew of that has been producing for me lately from about 0900 until after noon. Managed to scratch out 29 and decided to do a little investigating. Putted around trying to learn a little more about the lake and find some more fish. By pure luck I ran across the school of crappie in the screenshot below and stayed on them for an hour and a half and picked up 73 fish from this single school before I decided there were no big ones mixed in. The fish were (I suppose) all from the same year group as they were "cookie-cutter" 10" fish. They were fun while they lasted but between the wind, two rods going all the time and trying to keep on top of them I had enough. From 3 until I left about 5 I picked up another 26 as the wind allowed me to fish a few of my "go to" spots on the way back to the ramp. Altogether 55 on the clicker plus the 73 (I couldn't keep up with the clicker while I was fishing the school---to much other stuff going on---so I kept count so that number could be + or - a few) from the school. I saw water temps a couple of places at 54 degrees. Two of my fish were right at 14" and a couple were pushing 13", the majority of the rest were 10-12" as I only landed a handful of dinks.

I only fish on days that end in "Y" - (Retired Navy)
This particular shot was on an HDS7 Gen 1 with LSS1. Got my new HDS7 with LSS2 ready to install this week. Not so sure it will be that much of an improvement. This is the LSS1 that I have in the classifieds with the HDS5. I plan to put the Gen 1 HDS7 on the bow for the trolling motor (to replace the HDS5) and the new one on the back seat with LSS2.

Hey Pete. I have not kept up with electronics the last few years so I know nothing about SI units. Is your screen shot showing a school of fish on each side of the boat or is that the same school on each side of the picture?

Bill, they are pretty much under the transducer (more to the left than the right). The white stripe in the center of the screenshot is the top of the water column (at the transducer). The dark blue represents the water column itself (the verticle distance to the bottom). The light blue is the bottom. Best explanation I've heard is to imagine the screenshot as a piece of paper. Fold the paper along the center (white stripe). Fold it again where the dark and light blue meet. Lay that down flat with the center fold pointing up and that is what you are seeing. I drew up a couple of cartoons to demonstrate.
