Thread: Need line help!!

I'm new to serious crappie fishing and having serious issues with my line coiling. I love fishing ultra-lite but the loops are annoying to say the least. Was thinking about trying a braid with a mono leader, is this a no-no? One other issue; I was about to purchace a garmin 300c for my jon boat but heard serious crappie fishermen prefer Hummingbird for the fish finding capabilities. I'm open for any tips and
suggestions. Thx guys

Welcome aboard Howard. Are you sure you are putting the line on the reel properly? It can be put on backwards. As for depth finders its matter of personal choice like Chevys or Fords. Personally I prefer Lowrance but do have one of each on the boat.

As far as leaders go flourocarbon works fine.

Welcome to crappie.com! Sounds line you put line on bacards. Several friends have the garin 300c, I would not use it for anything but finding what depth it is!

I agree. You gotta be putting the line on backwards -- this is what YouTube is for -- fish finders are like guns: just because one fits my hand doesn't mean it will fit yours. Do your research and make the choice for you. Hope this helps. Tight lines!

Welcome!!!! I agree it sounds like your line was put on backwards or the line has been on your real for a long time. As far as d/f goes buy what you can afford. What bodies of water are you fishing? Tight Lines Jim.B

the Garmin will tell ya what you are in and they are pretty good for contours ...heres a thought for ya line ...let a bunch out while ya running she will straightin up also your cranks will cause swirls , you can always get your reel spools wound for ya ...try suffix or berkley XT throw your stren in the trash ....

The line should come off of spool counter clockwise onto the reel. Put the spool on the floor so the lines comes off counter clockwise, thread the line thru a guide and onto the reel and start reeling. This should solve your problem.
