My son and I put in at Shingles around 1230pm. The water was low and clear in the upper reaches of the creek but on the cloudy side in the river.Wind was out of the north 10-15. WT unknown.
Armed with ultra lights, ice jigs, 4 dozen minnows and a carton of Butter Worms we meandered out the creek and headed 3 miles south. We tried various depths with the jig tipped minnows/larvae and threw artificial as well. Did not get a bite.
After an hour or so, motored back to the mouth of the creek and tried again. Worked the area pretty well and cork went down one time but that's it.
We then spent the last 2 hours of daylight working the creek back to the ramp, various depths and caught a pickerel.
Surprised we didn't catch some yp males and a few crappie. We kind of know what we're doing fishing for pan fish but certainly aren't experts. It took all my will power not to break out the big guns and switch to cat fishing as I couldn't help but sneak an eel on the boat just in case.
My intention is to report when the main assault begins an advance to the north. I'll pick off as many as I can as they push through.

I think they'll turn on soon enough, on a more positive note at least we don't have to worry about so many pleasure boaters this time of year
