Hello new poster here. I mainly fish in the salt for specks and such but am looking at getting back inot freshwater. My qustion is does anyone know of any lakes around the Hampton Newport News area that you could fish from the shore and have a decent chance at a few. I have walked around Lake Maury and noticed a few spots that I will be trying out very soon. I will post results.
I do not know that area but welcome to the fourm.
Welcome aboard, Mark! My hat's off to you if you can score at LM. I fished it shortly after it reopened post-Isabel, and found nothing of interest--catfish, carp, bass with gross-looking lesions and lots of turtles. There are a few opportunities to bank fish in the NN reservoir system, but a better bet would be a rental boat & TM. Waller Mill is also a good option if you can rent a boat there. You list the Chick as your home lake and it's time for some good river fishing at Rockahock. We'll look forward to your reports as you try some of these places.
Welcome aboard Mark. We look forward to your reports.

CRAPPIE fishing is not a sport, its a way of life!
Newport News Reservoir has some shore fishing areas that are pretty good.
i know it a good drive from n/n but bob's fishing hole in ches. he has shore fishing and they catch a lot of yellow perch when the fish get ready to spawn.they catch crappie and cats to. welcome aboard.
Thanks for the welcome and advice. I used to fish the Chick alot about 12 years ago. Knew the back of Diacund (spelling) Creek very well. Its just a trek from the homefront. I will have to check out the above lakes and hope to get out to Walker's before too long, may be getting a jon boat this Spring.
