Got a nice bonus at work so had a choice buy a large hummingbird w si or 2 smaller ones So I think I made the right choice
I think got a 798ci hd si for the back and a 596c hd di for the front so think that was the right choice now just got to get on the water

I use my SI while slow trolling so its used in front. I can swivel it so I can see it when driving boat, ( SI doesn't work when moving over 5-7mph (?)
Will DI work at higher speeds? (doesn't seem like it would)
I keep my 798 set to read @ 1-2 mph.

Hey charlie, SI or DI will work at 30 mph but you can only see bottom, not interpret it,really it's no good pass about 6 mph except to know the depth, pwr198 ,they are great but make sure you fish some

I carried the book with me for the first yr, and I'm pretty good at rememberin what I read. I looked first at things I was very familiar with. that helps in bein able to interpret new things.

Be sure to buy an SD card and snap some pictures. Good advice on looking at some cover or structure that you are familiar with first.

I was always under the impression that the side imaging didn't work very well on a trolling motor due to the turning. How well does the 798 work on yours? Thanks

Jig1, I have read some do mount on TM, but it just doesn't make sense(to me) that it could work.. I did not mount it on TM, its on transom. Yes, if fishing over structure, I have to adjust my presentation of lures, because its reading 12' behind where I sit, but that is easy to do.. Last fall, when reading 6 stripers at lake anna 30' out on left side of boat, I knew transducer was on back, so I cast 30' from boat and even with transom. 2 cranks while jigging up/down and I had a very noce fish! Man, do I love my SI unit!

We have members in this forum who use it on their front trolling motor, however, every time they make a turn in most certainly will blur the image. Your best looking image will be with the transducer mounted on the transom, I do however understand why those who fish trolling motor only lakes put it up front.

I have a bracket and a pvc pipe mounted to transducer hook up to front that i put on front and take up when traveling,that way it do not turn when tm turns ,only turns if i want it to. I have extra xducer and power hook up,may work that way for you
