Default Saturday-Day 3, 47 crappie and another citation.

Headed out in my jon boat today and just like two days ago I went over 1.5 hours without a bite. Once I found them they were all small with most of them between 8" and 9". I had one at 1lb even and I think one other just under a pound when I landed this slab.

15.5" and 2lb 1oz. As you can see in the pic I was casting a black/pink BGBS and I was texting a friend of mine not even paying attention to how far my jig sank after I casted it. I can only guess that it was 14'-20' down in water around 22' deep. After catching all those dinks it felt like the monster that it was.

For the most part today I was catching them 16'-22' deep and I had good luck throwing a solid pink BGBS as well. Vertical jigged a black/chartreuse wasshoppah. Water temp was 50. Resting and watching football tomorrow then it's 3 more days of fishing.

Just to verify my own info, I am still trying to determine white vs black crappie. Color is not always the determining factor, but I understand the black crappie has 6 or more separate dorsal spines, which I think this one has. That would make it a black crappie, correct?? Or am I missing something.
Nice doggone fish, by the way. One of those on a light rod will get your attention.

Yes, this is a black crappie. We only have black crappie in SE Virginia.

OK well that makes it easy. We have both in our lakes here.

The easiest way to tell them apart is the tiger stripes. Here's one of each for comparison
