I'm torn on this issue. Crappie.com has really exploded and we not only have a lot of new members but many, many more lurkers. (those who only view to get info and contribute nothing, some sign up, others do not) I'm not referring to large bodies of water like Buggs, but the smaller lakes in SE Virginia.
I am considering no longer posting where I am fishing when on a smaller body of water but would gladly inform any regular member who contributes to this site via pm. By contributing I mean discloses type bait used, depth caught, water depth, etc... I have seen Western Branch get fished out and now Burnt Mills has taken a hit. Once word gets out that the crappie bite is on at a particular lake, it's doesn't take long for a lot of new folks to show up there.
At the same time I am considering doing this (as others on the site already do) I feel guilty as I don't feel that it is align with the intention of this site and to simply post pics of nice crappie without disclosing where they were caught (as another member pointed out) could be viewed as nothing more than bragging. BUT, we have one of the most viewed state forums at crappie.com and I have an issue with all the lurkers that come here only to receive info and never contribute anything. I already use pm's with numerous members but would like to hear others opinions.
What's yours?
