James River brown fish on Sun and Holiday Lake Saturday

Fished the James Sunday from the James River State Park. We put in and ran up about a mile or so, caught about 15 brown bass to 15 inches. Two weeks ago my buddy Kenny caught two on one plug at the same time and yesterday was my turn. Two 11 inch ones, one on the front hook and one on the back. First time for me, I have hooked them like that but never landed both. Water was kind of high and rolling, not real clear but not too dirty. We went down from the park and up the Tye quite a ways, caught a couple up there. Most of the fish were on a clown colored Rapala X-rap. The two biggest hit a three inch Mister Twister. No topwater bite yet, maybe another week or two. We saw a mink, an otter and lots of turkeys.

To keep Tap happy I will add I fished Holiday Lake a couple of hours Saturday evening and caught just one lone crappie, about 12 inches on a Kalin's grub. River temp was 68, Holiday Lake was 70.

Here is the biggest from that day, 16 + incher. We threw the big baits for musky awhile and I had one follow, no bites. I wish I had got after them when I was younger, those big baits will wear you out very quick but if you get a bite, there is nothing else like it.



Couple from Briery in March to keep everybody happy and then I can call it a crappie post
